Elden Ring Nightreign Co-op Guide — Crossplay, Matchmaking, Leaver Penalty & Password Rooms
Nightreign requires 3 players to start. No 2-player option, no AI fillers. Matchmaking via FromSoftware’s classic password system.
Setting Up With Friends
Section titled “Setting Up With Friends”Step 1: Set Matchmaking Password
Section titled “Step 1: Set Matchmaking Password”- Open Network Settings menu
- Set “Multiplayer Password” to a shared string (e.g.,
friends123) - All friends must use the exact same password
Step 2: Roundtable Hold Sit Down
Section titled “Step 2: Roundtable Hold Sit Down”- All 3 players sit at the central round table
- Click “Embark” → triggers character selection screen
- Select character (duplicates allowed)
Step 3: Land Together
Section titled “Step 3: Land Together”- All 3 land at random spawn point in Limveld
- Open mini-map immediately, pin landing strategy via map markers
T0 Trio Comp (Universal)
Section titled “T0 Trio Comp (Universal)”| Role | Character | Why |

Execution:
- Raider drops Totem at boss → team buff up
- Ironeye marks boss with Δ+L2 → +10% team damage
- All three pop Ultimates synchronously → massive burst
Kite Trio (When No One Can Melee)
Section titled “Kite Trio (When No One Can Melee)”3× Ironeye — pure kiting.
- One holds aggro
- Other two free DPS
- Mutual revives via arrow shots
- Even if boss switches target, repeat the dance
Compromise Trio (1 Skilled Melee)
Section titled “Compromise Trio (1 Skilled Melee)”Executor + Ironeye × 2 — Upgrade one Ironeye to Executor if at least one teammate excels at melee.
Universal Team Rules
Section titled “Universal Team Rules”- All members equip Relic that adds status to starting weapon
- Prioritize Nightlord-weakness status (check select screen icon)
- Always check Nightlord wipe-mechanic patterns before expedition
- Save Ultimates for boss interrupts when possible
Resource Priorities
Section titled “Resource Priorities”Level > Flasks > Weapons
- Level is the most important — every stat point matters. Aim for Level 15.
- Flasks: 5 = OK, 6 = good, 7 = best. Don’t detour for more than 4-5.
- Weapons: Upgrade your starting weapon over picking up random drops.
New Player Co-op Tips
Section titled “New Player Co-op Tips”- ❌ Don’t run off alone — guaranteed death
- ✅ Follow the player with completion skins — they’re veterans
- ✅ Revive teammates IMMEDIATELY — Ironeye revives via arrow shot are fastest
- ✅ Use chat/pin system to coordinate routing
Network Optimization
Section titled “Network Optimization”Nightreign uses P2P matchmaking with host as server. High latency causes:
- Input “swallowing” (your commands don’t register)
- Player teleportation glitches
- Boss attack desync (visual ≠ hitbox)
Solutions
Section titled “Solutions”For cross-region play (CN ↔ JP/NA/EU):
- Use gaming VPN/accelerator (NetEase UU, Qiyou, LeiShen, etc.)
- Reduces packet loss and stabilizes latency
For LAN/same-region:
- Wired Ethernet > Wi-Fi
- Close background apps eating bandwidth
- Pick the most stable connection as host
Match Etiquette (Unwritten Rules)
Section titled “Match Etiquette (Unwritten Rules)”- Don’t loot teammate’s chests — wait for the player who summoned the chest
- Don’t sprint past unrevived teammates in dangerous zones
- Don’t waste flasks — let the dedicated flask-sharer pop theirs first
- No griefing — don’t intentionally fail expeditions
Solo vs Co-op Difficulty Comparison
Section titled “Solo vs Co-op Difficulty Comparison”| Mode | Enemy HP | AI Aggression | Difficulty |

Counter-intuitively, solo is harder despite weaker enemies — no aggro distribution, no team revives.
Compensation for solo:
- “Dew of the Night” item (2 uses per expedition for auto-revive)
- Adjacent enemies enter “observing state” — reduced flank risk
Q: Can I play with 2 friends + no random? A: No, you need exactly 3 — recruit a 3rd from passwords-share Discord servers if needed.
Q: How do I drop in with already-progressing friends? A: Friends in mid-expedition can NOT be joined. Only at Roundtable Hold.
Q: Cross-platform play? A: PC ↔ PC only. PlayStation only with PlayStation. No PC ↔ PS5 yet.
Q: Best accelerator for CN players? A: NetEase UU has the most documented Nightreign support. LeiShen is alternative.
