Can You Beat Nightreign Solo? Solo Expedition Clear Guide (2026, Patch 1.03.2)
Yes — every standard Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign is clearable solo. Since the 1.01.1 solo improvements (current patch 1.03.2), solo expeditions get an auto-revive, about +60% runes, and bosses lose roughly 66% of their HP (e.g. Gladius drops from 33,984 to 11,328). Ironeye or Wylder clear the normal 8 Nightlords; the final boss Heolstor stays the hardest.
Can you actually clear it solo?
Section titled “Can you actually clear it solo?”Yes. Solo play was rough at launch, but FromSoftware added real single-player support starting with Patch 1.01.1 after community complaints, and it has carried forward through the current Patch 1.03.2 (Regulation 1.03.5). The normal 8 Nightlords are all beatable by one player. Only the final boss (Heolstor) and the harder Everdark versions remain a serious grind solo.
If you’d rather not solo, Nightreign also has a 2-player Duo Expeditions mode and full trio co-op.
Confirmed solo bonuses (Fextralife)
Section titled “Confirmed solo bonuses (Fextralife)”These are the single-player adjustments that are actually documented. Anything not on this list, we leave out.
| Bonus | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-revival | One automatic revival upon defeat per Nightlord fight, added to solo expeditions | Fextralife / patch notes |
| Rune gain | About +60% | Fextralife solo-mode notes |
| Boss HP reduction | About −66% | Fextralife solo-mode notes |
| Enemy attack damage / movesets | Unchanged | Fextralife |
Boss HP example (Gladius)
Section titled “Boss HP example (Gladius)”| Party size | HP |
|---|---|
| Solo | 11,328 |
| Trio | 33,984 |
Solo boss HP is about one-third of the trio value — but you only have one damage dealer, so the net challenge is still on the high side. The bonuses are closer to compensation than a free pass.
Not confirmed — so we don’t claim it
Section titled “Not confirmed — so we don’t claim it”- Exact auto-revive countdown timing — — (not documented)
- A “+30% relic drop rate” for solo — — (no official-doc support; community rumor only)
- Any additional solo bonuses added in 1.02+ — — (not listed by Fextralife)
Best solo classes
Section titled “Best solo classes”Community consensus centers on two picks. Both are widely recommended for solo and beginners.
Ironeye — most reliable all-rounder
Section titled “Ironeye — most reliable all-rounder”- Safe ranged damage and high poise (stagger) damage with the bow.
- The only class that performs well against all 8 Nightlords — the universal answer.
- Downside: repetitive playstyle over long farming sessions.
Wylder — beginner-friendly balanced pick
Section titled “Wylder — beginner-friendly balanced pick”- Strong survivability and solid damage; high mobility from Claw Shot.
- Great for grounded fights (Gladius, Adel, Gnoster, Maris).
- A forgiving entry point if you’re new to solo.
Other notes
Section titled “Other notes”- Executor and Duchess can excel solo in skilled hands (strong 1-on-1 / burst), but are harder to pilot.
- Generally weaker solo: Guardian (taunt does little to bosses), Revenant (summon AI is unreliable), and pure-support picks — you need self-sufficient damage and survival.
Class consensus shifts with balance patches; treat the above as starting points, not law.
Per-Nightlord solo difficulty
Section titled “Per-Nightlord solo difficulty”Boss HP below already reflects the solo reduction. Attempt ranges are community estimates, not official numbers. For elemental weaknesses, see the Nightlord Weakness Chart.
| Nightlord | Suggested class | Solo attempts (est.) | Key tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladius (three-headed) | Wylder / Ironeye | 3–5 | Reach ~Level 11 before the fight |
| Adel (locust) | Ironeye (ranged) | 4–6 | Grab an AoE weapon on Day 1 |
| Gnoster (twins) | Duchess / Ironeye | 5–8 | Bring both brothers to ~50% together |
| Maris (abyss) | Ironeye | 4–7 | Holy damage helps |
| Libra | Duchess / Wylder | 6–10 | Stay on the opposite scale side |
| Fulgor (lightning) | Duchess | 5–8 | Lightning resist + Level 13+ |
| Caligo (split-mist) | Ironeye | 8–15 (standard) | Fire damage helps |
| Heolstor (final boss) | Ironeye + revive relic | 30–50 (community) | Weak to Holy; learn the Phase-2 rotation. See Heolstor |
Everdark versions, solo
Section titled “Everdark versions, solo”Recommended for experienced players only. Everdark HP is far higher; even with the −66% solo reduction, solo first-clears are a major grind (Everdark Caligo 50+ attempts, Everdark Heolstor 100+ by community reports). For Everdark, co-op is the saner time investment.
Minimum solo checklist (every Nightlord)
Section titled “Minimum solo checklist (every Nightlord)”Before entering any boss room:
- Character Level 13+ (Level 15 for Heolstor)
- Main weapon upgraded to +6
- 3 relics (Class Talisman + a survival/revive relic + your damage-element relic)
- The matching elemental grease, fully stocked
- A revive item / relic (e.g. a Night Dew–type effect)
- A resist charm for the boss’s element
Solo run pacing (Day 1 / Day 2)
Section titled “Solo run pacing (Day 1 / Day 2)”Day 1 (~30 min)
Section titled “Day 1 (~30 min)”- Open early chests first for starting relics.
- Clear 2–3 normal field bosses to level up.
- Hit the shop for needed grease and upgrade your weapon to +4.
Day 2 (~30 min)
Section titled “Day 2 (~30 min)”- Push the Shifting Earth main route (richest resources).
- Clear a field boss, reach Level 13–15.
- Buy a revive relic, upgrade your weapon to +6, finalize relics.
Boss Day
Section titled “Boss Day”- Confirm the checklist above is fully ticked.
- Expect to die once on first entry — use it to read the moveset.
- Play the real attempt from the second entry on.
Solo vs duo vs trio
Section titled “Solo vs duo vs trio”| Aspect | Solo | Duo | Trio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boss HP | ~1/3 | scales toward 3 | full |
| Rune bonus | +60% | standard | standard |
| Auto-revive | Yes (1) | no | no |
| Normal Nightlord first-clear | 3–15 attempts | easier than solo | easiest |
| Heolstor first-clear | 30+ attempts | moderate | 5–15 |
| Everdark | not recommended | viable | ★★★★★ |
Bottom line: solo the normal 8 Nightlords if you like playing alone or have an unpredictable schedule; switch to duo or trio for Everdark and for faster relic farming.
Top 5 solo mistakes
Section titled “Top 5 solo mistakes”| Mistake | Result |
|---|---|
| No survival/revive relic | One knockdown ends the run |
| Under-leveled by Day 2 | Boss room one-shots you |
| Using a trio-oriented build | Not enough solo damage or survival |
| Forgetting the solo bonuses | Wrong expectations, you quit too early |
| Soloing Everdark | Usually a waste of time — go co-op |
